ABOUT US
The Macedonian Game Developers Association - MAGDA is the oldest game industry association in Macedonia and has played a key role in building the game development ecosystem and positioning the country within the international game development landscape.Since its founding in 2013, MAGDA has worked to connect and support a growing community of developers, artists, designers, and enthusiasts. It has contributed to the establishing of numerous local studios, helping strengthen collaboration within the industry.

PROJECTS & INITIATIVES
MAPPING THE GAME DEVELOPMENT INDUSTRY IN MACEDONIAA 2022 research initiative by the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research (ISPPI), supported by the British Council, with MAGDA as an industry collaborator. It was the first comprehensive mapping of the sector in Macedonia, providing a baseline for future strategic and policy development.
GLOBAL GAME JAM MACEDONIAFrom 2013 to 2023, MAGDA organized 11 editions of Global Game Jam, the world’s largest 48-hour game development event held in over 100 countries.Hosted in Skopje, Bitola, Ohrid, and online, it brought together developers, designers, artists, and enthusiasts to create playable game prototypes around a shared global theme. Macedonia ranked among the top countries worldwide in participants per capita, including a notable position in 2016 with over 250 participants.
EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCES & TRAINING PROGRAMSGame Razviotka (Game Bodybuilding) — a series of conferences (2014–2016), organized in collaboration with Seavus Educational and Development Centre (SEDC), featuring lectures by experienced Macedonian game developers.T-Home Game Weekend (2018) — a weekend conference organized with Macedonian Telecom, covering game design, programming, digital art, and sound design.Game Dev 1UP & 1UP Game Jam (2022) — online trainings, conferences, and an on-site game jam, implemented as part of the British Council Creative Producers program.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & INFRASTRUCTUREGame Developers Hive (Bitola, 2015–2019) — an incubator and educational center developed with GAUSS Institute, providing workspace, equipment, mentorship, and training.Indie Beer MeetUp — informal community gatherings organized with local studios, encouraging networking, idea exchange, and project showcasing.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONCentral & Eastern European Game Awards (CEEGA) — jury memebers since 2017.DSC Europe Conference — regional Community Partner since 2023.Global Game Jam, PISMO Incubator, Novska — jury participation in 2024.Game Jam Plus (2021/2022) — participation in the international game development competition, with a Macedonian team winning the Best Game of Europe award.

IGRA
IGRA | Initiative for Responsible Gaming and Awareness is a modern initiative supported by MAGDA, dedicated to promoting a healthy, balanced, and conscious approach to video games and interactive digital content.Building on experience from the gaming and creative industries, IGRA encourages a deeper understanding of gaming culture, its impact, and its role in modern society. Through education, research, and practical programs, the initiative raises awareness among children, young people, parents, educators, and the wider public about both the positive and the potentially harmful aspects of gaming, including excessive use, digital addiction, online safety, and the influence of digital habits on everyday life.IGRA believes that games can be a powerful form of culture, learning, creativity, and social connection when approached responsibly and with awareness. By connecting industry professionals, educational institutions, families, and communities, the initiative aims to contribute to a safer, healthier, and more responsible digital future for everyone.
